NEWSLETTER SRING 2009

IN THE BEGINING WE MARCHED

A FEW WORDS FROM BRENDA TAYLOR OUR CHAIRPERSON
Thanks to all our hard working volunteers for the many months of very hard work they put in during the winter, clearing the site in preparation for a survey.  Without the support and dedication of these volunteers the survey could not have taken place.

Many thanks to Dave Thomas from the probation services for his kind assistance and participation.

Thank you to Countryside Services officers Howard, Garry, Jim and Adrian, also volunteer Peter and professional hedge layer Arwen for their contribution towards the burning of scrub, in October and hedge laying in December 2008.

Our groups target has been achieved through single minded determination to clear the site of rubbish, ragwort, dead trees, unwanted household rubbish, months of litter picking and clearance work.

On the 14th April Barbara Borders our group treasurer and Janet Pell a Land life consultant, spent the day on the reserve in preparation of wild flower planting.  The consultants report will be submitted for consideration to Denbighshire County Council and the local nature reserve management committee.

Thank you to Graham Berry of the Wild Life Trust for his impressive and valued information.

A site meeting took place on Monday 20th April between   Denbighshire County Council Countryside Services manager   Mr Howard Sutcliffe, Mrs Susan Haygarth principle regeneration officer for Denbighshire County Council, and Environmental Associates director Mr Martin Band, private environmental consultants to prepare the nature reserve master plan.

The Rhuddlan Environment Group welcome this support from Denbighshire County Council. All parties are working together to create a 5 hectare Nature Reserve which will help to bring prosperity to our town and it’s surrounding areas in Denbighshire. The Reserve signage is to be agreed.

Our group extends its gratitude to Mr Raymond Fagan, who has supported our actions to protect the last green open space in Rhuddlan. The Rhuddlan Nature Reserve will have the protection of registration as a local Nature Reserve for future generations.

Mr Raymond Fagan and Denbighshire County Council will shortly be holding a M.A.G. meeting to discuss the formal allocation of the Station Road site as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) which will give the site the level of protection our group has sought for many months.

All LNR applications must be agreed with the countryside council for Wales, and are subject to formal local management arrangements.
