Following many months of hard work on the Rhuddlan Nature Reserve clearing scrub, rubbish, fly tipping, cutting back and removing dead trees our volunteers celebrated this achievement with an award from the Big Lottery fund. A cheque from the Big Lottery Fund was presented to the group by the mayor of Rhuddlan, John Emlyn Jones and his daughter Lisa for £5,000.00. This money has been awarded to the group to help with the costs of reinstating the old railway steps and bridge area, working together to bring improvements to the town.
Professor David Bellamy sent his congratulations to the group on their achievements, supporting their good work in safeguarding this last green area in Rhuddlan and enhancing its bio – diversity for the future.
The Rhuddlan Environment Group volunteers recently cleared what is soon to be a nature Glen, which in due course will be covered with wild flowers such as blue bells, daffodils and snow drops. The old trees will replaced and the area will have natural wooden seating. The group continues to grow and we are looking forward to making plans for future events for all to enjoy. Our first event in early June will be a visit to the National Wildflower Centre in Liverpool to view their wildflower meadows at their peak. The visit will be on a Saturday or a Sunday as this was requested by the majority of our members, the cost will be kept to a minimum anyone interested in this event please register your interest by phone on 591 670 before Friday 15th May.
If you would like to join us and become a member or volunteer please phone 591 670 or leave your name and address at the drop in box in Rhuddlan Library. Membership is free to all everyone is welcome
